What is UberFlex?

UberFlex is a feature that lets riders save money by adjusting their pickup time. Users can choose flexible pickup windows to access lower fares during off-peak times. It leverages real-time traffic and demand data to optimize pricing, offering a seamless way to reduce costs.

Research Conducted

We conducted user interviews, market research, competitor analysis, and built personas to understand rider behavior. Our data analysis revealed that many users find UberX expensive, prompting us to explore ways to make rides more affordable.

Target Audience

The feature is designed for all UberX riders, as affordability is a universal concern. We assumed that, similar to Waze users who check the best time to leave, taxi riders would also be willing to adjust pickup times to save money.

Insights Discovered

Riders are price-sensitive and open to adjusting their pickup time for a lower fare. Traffic patterns and demand fluctuations create natural price variations, which can be leveraged to offer savings.

Defined Solution

We integrated Uber Flex directly into the UberX booking flow as a slider that allows users to select a flexible pickup time. The car type options dynamically update based on the selected time.

Implementation of the Solution

We kept the existing UX intact and added a slider at the top of the UberX booking screen. The system uses an algorithm similar to Waze, combining traffic predictions and real-time data to suggest optimal pickup times for lower fares.
